Good news recently on the rescue scene; I am happy to report that the Club has been instrumental in rehoming 3 collies over the last few weeks. It just goes to show how kind some people are when they are willing to take on older dogs or those that have had some medical issues in the past and give them a second chance.
One older girl was Rosie a 9 year old who was in the RSPCA animal shelter; the prospects of them rehoming her were not looking too good. They contacted me and asked if we could help, they also advised that they had a 5 year old male whose previous medical problem made him an unlikely candidate in their books for rehoming. Both dogs had been surrendered by their owner as he was unable to keep them and I wasn't overly hopeful that we would be able to find homes for them either as most people are not keen to take on older dogs as their advancing years can often lead to big vet bills.
Just a few days after the telephone call from the RSPCA I had an appointment at my local vets and Jackie the vet nurse asked if I knew of any rescues as she had recently lost Angus her previous rescue collie and she felt the time was now right for another one to join her family. When I told her about the plight of Rosie and Danny she went straight down to have a look at them, she was particularly interested in Danny and being a vet nurse who better to look after a dog with a previous history of seizures. A few days later he was booked in for desexing and Jackie welcomed him into her home were he has settled really well.
Shortly after we were lucky to find Rosie a new home, she too has settled in with her new family and now happily resides on a farm 2 hours south of Cooma, she has another dog for company Molly a Border Collie and it is her new owners intention to take Rosie with her on her visits to the local nursing homes.
The next lucky lad to find a home within a couple of days of us being notified was an 8 year old tricolour, he was underweight and his coat was badly matted, through the powers of the internet a new home was lined up for him straight away and his advancing years have not deterred the people from wanting to help him spend his last years in comfort.
So I would like to say a big THANK YOU to these kind people who have opened their hearts and their homes to these 3 collies.
